Tile in a hallway

Projects & People Kitchen Design with Crossville Studios Tile: A Before and After Design Story

Oct 09, 2022

A nearly twenty-year-old diamond in the rough near Conroe, Texas, needed some love and updates to align with contemporary design sensibilities. A recent renovation reinvigorated the home with a fresh color palette and natural light, removing every ounce of its Old-World Tuscan vibe.

This quintessential "Texan Tuscan" was discovered by a fashionable working professional who had recently relocated to Texas from Michigan with her pack of award-winning bulldogs. She saw through the heavy faux finishes, dark fixtures, and closed-off spaces and knew this home had great potential!

The kitchen needed a complete design overhaul, so the talented design team from By Design Interiors began the kitchen renovation by creating a more open-concept kitchen, removing walls to enlarge the closed-in space, and designing a functional working pantry. The intricately drawn kitchen design allowed the space to flow perfectly and incorporated smart storage space for all the kitchen equipment, dishes, and utensils. The funky yet functional lighting design and fixtures ensured each kitchen area was well-lit with dimmers for added ambiance. All the materials chosen for the new kitchen had to look beautiful and on-trend but also be durable, easy to maintain — and, most importantly, puppy-proof!

A color palette of black, white, and gold weaves throughout the home, including the kitchen. The design team desired a glossy black tile backsplash for the wall behind the cooktop to align with this dynamic color scheme. The selection of black wall tile with a subtle sheen and an eye-catching chevron pattern from Crossville Studios' Chevron collection compliments the grand design statement. The kitchen backsplash pairs perfectly with the custom gold range hood and modern black and gold pendants that hang above the island. The ceramic backsplash tiles are beautiful but will also be easy for the homeowner to care for as they are non-porous, sanitary, easy to clean, and durable for the long haul. This show-stopping kitchen certainly grabs your attention and then keeps it as you take a seat at the island and enjoy a glass of wine.
