Tile in a hallway

About the project

The Project:
Situated in BartaHouse, a top recommended Airbnb location, Stylus & Crate features a distinct design befitting the style of the blossoming cultural district of which it’s a part. In developing Stylus & Crate, the owner sought to create a space to share his love of vinyl and invite conversations and connections for neighborhood residents and guests. He partnered with Arrow B Architecture and Can of Creative graphic design services to accomplish his design goals.

The Project Design and Tile Story:
When sourcing countertops for the new coffee shop, the design team focused on finding a material with the durability and stain resistance necessary. Additionally, the team wanted the ability to fabricate a radius look that conveyed the vinyl record concept and shape. Ultimately, Crossville Porcelain Countertops came out the winner of the specification process because of the material’s slab size and its ability to be cut on a radius. Also, the potential for the edges of the slabs answered the specification requirements, as the designers wanted a slim profile and a finished look without building up a turn-down edge in order to accommodate the desired curve.

Crossville Porcelain Countertops are an innovative alternative to other commonly used surfaces. These 12 mm-thick slabs provide all the performance advantages expected of commercial-grade porcelain tile, including easy maintenance and no worries of staining. In the Stylus & Crate location, the team chose the Femme Fatale unpolished option that coordinates with the bold, golden yellow accents and wood tones that designers incorporated throughout the space.

From offering simple maintenance to eliminating worries of staining, yellowing, or chipping that are common when using other materials such as natural stone, the Crossville surfacing solution does its part to make serving in this shop enjoyable. Crossville Porcelain Countertops require no special cleaning products and are resistant to mold and fungi, providing an excellent surface material choice for high demand areas like restaurants. Additionally, the owners won’t have to remember to “seal” the countertops, as Crossville’s porcelain countertops don’t require this extra measure in order to maintain the superior performance characteristics.

With countertops so easy to clean, the team at Stylus & Crate won’t have to worry about scrubbing pesky coffee stains and can spend more time connecting with guests, keeping the coffee brewing, and spinning vinyl.
